SA Light Guide® Edge Light Type High-Luminance Light Guide Plate

SA Light Guide®Edge Light Type High-Luminance Light Guide Plate

“SA Light Guide” is a high-luminance light guide plate developed by Sumitomo Chemical Co., Ltd.. Using a Polymethyl Methacrylate(PMMA) sheet, which has outstanding optical properties, as the base material, “SA Light Guide” has been created with our proprietary optical design and special fine processing.
“SA Light Guide” converts various edge light sources such as LED and Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp-CCFL into an even, bright planar emission.

SA Light Guide Product Features

Uses Sumitomo Chemical's light-permeable sheets

SA Light Guide utilizes the PMMA sheet developed by Sumitomo Chemical which has superlative optical characteristics to cut ultraviolet light while providing a high rate of transmission for the visible light spectrum, which allows the amount of available light to be utilized to its maximum.

Even, high luminance

The unique optical design and special fineness of processing provide a high-luminance surface light emission which is smooth and even, while maintaining safety because the light emission surface itself does not become hot.

Flexible space design

The thickness of SA Light Guide is extremely thin at 3mm (5mm), a 63% reduction compared to previous products (with thicknesses of 8mm), making the product lighter in weight, and allowing greater flexibility in designing the utilization of space.

Designed for processing flexibility

Sections which are large in area (maximum 3600mm x 1600mm) without joints can be created from the raw product, and these sheets can then be trimmed from specified sizes down to the required sizes. In addition, the sheets can be bended to provide even greater processing flexibility.

SA Light Guide Principles

One side of the light-transmitting acrylic sheet is specially processed via a method such as reflective dot printing. (Fig.1)-1」

When the light emitted by the LEDs or other light source is transmitted from the edge of the light-transmitting sheet, it is reflected in toward the inside of the light-transmitting sheet. The light thus reflected is repeatedly radiated from the surface so that it spreads out inside the light-transmitting sheet.(Fig.2)

Light sources such as LEDs or cold cathode tubes are positioned at the edges of this light-transmitting sheet, and surface light emission is obtained by the combination of the reflective surface and the dispersion surface.(Fig.3)

SA Light Guide Cutting Methods

Given light from One Side

Cut the plate to the desired size, leaving the incident light edge.

Given light from Both Sides

Using the center of the plate as a guideline, cut the plate symmetrically into the desired size. Because the both newly cut edges serve as incident light edges, ensure that a mirror finish is applied.

SA Light Guide Standard Product Sizes
